After a period of study that included Law and Town Planning, Andrew opted out of the university path and was involved in a number of start-up businesses that covered several entrepreneurial bases including youth market consultancy, fashion production and media. In 2005 the idea for Pistols at Dawn was conceived—inspired by a stint overseas, and the dawning realisation that menswear in Brisbane was under catered for when it came to modern tailoring.
Using his considerable flair for getting businesses off the ground and eye for sartorial detail, Andrew launched Pistols at Dawn in its base format as purely a bespoke shirt service. It was soon evident that there was a captive market and a high demand amongst men for a slower more personalised style of fashion with an emphasis on cut, design and high quality manufacture.
To compliment the personalised shirt service a Pistols at Dawn range was sold through retail stores before Andrew opened The Cloakroom with Josh McPherson in 2007. The intimate space they chose for the store offered men a different experience from the conventional retail model.
Andrew’s approach to the business and the Pistols at Dawn product has not wavered as the brand has grown. At its core is his belief in offering men a unique retail experience, a high quality personalised product and an honest approach to business.
Andrew now solely runs the operation from Brisbane with Josh relocating to Sydney to present the Pistols at Dawn story through The Cloakroom store in Surry Hills.

As a QUT Industrial Design graduate and former sales consultant for Poliform, Josh’s approach to fashion is to transfer an idea to a physical product with a strong focus on practical, wearable garments. His background in furniture has shaped his appreciation for the simplicity of well-made thoughtful design.
Josh joined Pistols at Dawn with a passion to evolve the brand through communicating a story and purpose, making clothing relevant and enjoyable.
Driven by the desire to create beautifully crafted garments Josh works closely with the production team to refine and develop the signature details that set Pistols at Dawn garments apart.
